Kilkenny Mart – Cattle Prices – 26-01-2023

According to George Candler, some 1,050 entries, including 330 cull cows, came under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart on Thursday, January 26th, 2023.

The mart manager reported there was a 98% clearance at the mart’s general cattle sale, with highs of €2,660 for bullocks and €2,240 for heifers.

  • Continentals – €1.58-€2.97/kg;
  • Friesian – €0.99-€2.38/kg.

Beef heifers – €2.63-€3.31/kg or €1,580-€2,240/head:

  • CHX – 750kgs – €2,240;
  • PTX – 715kgs – €2,180;
  • CHX – 700kgs – €2,160;
  • 2 CHX – 628kgs – €2,080;
  • LM – 635kgs – €2,030;
  • AAX – 600kgs – €1,580.

Forward store heifers – €2.40-€3.21/kg or €1,070-€1,630/head:

Last week’s cattle prices

According to George Candler, a larger entry comprising some 940 lots came under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart’s general cattle sale on Thursday, January 19th, 2023.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that turnover reached in excess of €1.188 million at its most sale.

Candler commented that “this was due to the magnificent prices generated by an electric trade for both beef and store-type animals”.
