Outbreaks of rain are set to become widespread today (Monday, January 11th), according to Met Éireann’s weather forecast.
Rain will turn heavy in the west and north-west through the afternoon and evening.
Mayo is being placed under a 24-hour status yellow rainfall warning from 12pm today.
The national forecaster has warned that persistent and occasionally heavy rainfall may cause some localised flooding.
Meanwhile, widespread outbreaks of rain will lead to a risk of spot flooding. Rain will clear in Ulster, resulting in a drop in temperatures to 0 to 3 degrees.
Tuesday
Tomorrow will see further outbreaks of rains with afternoon highs of 9 to 10 degrees. It will be dry and clear for a period in Ulster, with rain to become patchier along the south coast.
Rain will continue tomorrow night, bringing a risk of flooding to Ulster, becoming patchier along the south coast.
It will be coldest over the north-eastern half of the country, where temperatures will dip to 2 to 4 degrees. Elsewhere, temperatures will remain generally unchanged from daytime values of 9 degrees.
Wednesday
Rain will clear away to the northeast through the morning, with scattered showers to follow. Temperatures will reach between 10 to 11 degrees with night-time lows of 6 to 7 degrees in mostly moderate westerly breezes.
Thursday
It will be mostly dry with sunny spells and some patchy drizzle in southern coastal counties, according to the national forecaster.
Temperatures will hit 7 to 9 degrees with lows of -1 to +1 degrees during the night.
Thursday night will also see a return to frost under clear skies with light winds, with some mist and fog patches to form by morning.
Friday
According to Met Éireann, it will be mostly dry, with patches of light rain or drizzle to impact Atlantic coastal counties.
Temperatures will reach 5 to 7 degrees in light to moderate southerly winds, freshening on Atlantic coasts later.
Looking ahead to the weather forecast for the weekend, generally unsettled conditions are in store, with spells of rain at times, coupled with mainly south-westerly winds.
