‘I would like to share my life with someone’ – 49-year-old Westport woman

49-year-old Love in the Country star, Edwina Walsh, resides in Westport, Co Mayo, the ‘adventure capital of Ireland’, where she owns a bustling café, the town’s “hangout area”.

She is one of six singletons hoping to find romance through the RTÉ 1 show, which is based on the Fremantle Media reality show, Farmer Wants a Wife.

An avid swimmer and hiker, she desires to match with an “outdoorsy adventurous soulmate”.

She explains: “You have great freedom with hills and beaches, so if you are into outdoor life, it [rural living] is amazing. Of course, with the dogs, it is a perfect lifestyle.”

“A lot of people come into the café, but I work there, so you would not look at a potential suitor coming in; you just serve them.”

In more recent times, she invested in a camper van, which has taken her “the length and breadth of Ireland”.

“I can climb a mountain with no bother and am not depressed doing it, but I would like to do it with someone, or go to the movies or travel and go: this weekend’s, let’s go to Paris.”

“I would like to share my life with someone. I have great energy, and I always want to do stuff.”

“It is just to be able to share that with someone and have a good laugh,” she adds.

She explains that her 18-year-old daughter has flown the nest, so ideally, she would have a preference for an other half with older children “so we would have the freedom to be able to go [places]”.

“I do not have a type. You could have the whole cliché thing of tall, dark and handsome. But just as long as they are laid back and into the outdoors. I do like height because I am so small.”

“It is not as if I need someone to fill a void or help me pay bills; I do not. But at this stage, I just need companionship.”

“I feel like I have a lot of love to give. So, I am at that stage now where I would spoil them rotten. I am generous and kind and would like to think I am thoughtful,” she concludes.

The other singletons include:

  • Robert Murphy (32), a pharmacist and part-time farmer from West Cork;
  • Alanagh Loftus (20), a veterinary nursing student & sheep farmer;
  • George Quirke (36), a land custodian from Carlow;
  • Fiona Moore (32), a restaurant and pub owner in Donegal;
  • Jano Evans (22) is a coffee shop owner and part-time farmer.
