€5,100 for Clew Bay Panda at Irish Limousin sale

Topping the Irish Limousin Cattle Society’s final sale of 2020 at €5,050 was Clew Bay Panda, property of Padraic Golden, Westport, Co. Mayo.

Prices ranged from €1,800-€5,100 for bulls at the sale at Tuam Mart on Friday, December 11th, 2020.

The sale leader, a son of Mereside Godolphin and the Hunstershall Gladiator dam, Clew Bay Kelly 2, was secured by a local farmer.

March-2019-born Panda boasts five-star ratings in replacement index, terminal index, docility, carcass weight and carcass conformation.

Next best at €3,800 was another Mayo-born bull, presented for sale by Ray O’Hara, Swinford,  and acquired by a Wicklow farmer.

His Ampertaine Elgin son, Cranmore Pirate, comes from a highly successful gene pool. His dam is Meenross Klass with Sympa and Wilodge Vantastic in her sire stack. His maternal Granddam Castleview Felicity is also dam to Meenross Leader.

Thirdly, pushing up to €3,000 was Portauns P V-Easy from Laurence and John Lynch, Kilmallock, Co. Limerick. P V-Easy is a multi-starred son of Tomschoice Lexicon and the Nimbus-Mn daughter Glebe Pard Brid. This 18-month-old bull was the pick of a county Leitrim-based farmer.

Furthermore, the youngest bull sold was Birchpark Packer from Owen Flannery, Mountshannon, Co. Clare.

Packer is a well-muscled son of Whinfellpark Lomu and the Plumtree Fantastic daughter Birchpark Lady. Fourteen-month-old Packer acquired by a Tuam farmer for a bid of €3,000.

€2,900 or under

Two bulls found new homes at €2,900. First up was Mullaghboy Peter from Matthew Fee, Corrawallen, Co. Leitrim. Peter has Bavardage, Ampertaine Commander and Navarin in his sire stack. With five-star ratings in many traits, Peter was snapped up by a Cavan purchaser.

Colin Hogg, Clonlara, Co. Clare presented the second bull, Clonlara Percy, which sold for €2,900. Percy is a son of Bavardage; his dam Clonlara Irish Rose is a daughter of Neuf. Percy has five-star ratings in replacement index, terminal index, carcass weight, carcass conformation and daughter milk. A Mayo farmer was the successful bidder.

Also by Bavardage Was BUNNYMORE POIROT from Michael Reynolds, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim. Poirot has an array of five-star ratings. His dam, Bunnymore Harper, has Sympa and Mas Du Clo in her back pedigree. Michael accepted €2,800 for Poirot from a Galway buyer.

Three bulls sold for €2,500. Lot 13 Mullaghboy Packie was first at this price. Packie is a son of Goldies Jackpot and the Nenuphar dam, Mullaghboy Ciara. Multi starred Packie was bred by Matthew Fee. He was acquired by Aa##a Galway purchaser.

Green Hill Power, A May-2019-born bull from Damien McLoughlin, Ballina, Co. Mayo was the second bull sold at €2,500. Power has Ewdenvale Ivor, Meridien, Proctors Commander and Acajou in his linage. Multi-starred Power returns to Mayo with a Foxford-based buyer.

OVAUN PAT, one of the first offspring of Fenomen to be offered for sale in Ireland, climbed to €2,500. Pat was bred in Elphin, Co. Roscommon by Michael Gunn. Born in September-2019, multi-starred Pat has On-Dit and Ronick Hawk in his back pedigree. Pat heads to a farm in Co. Clare.

Females

Shannon Pearl 2, a daughter of Keltic Handsome sold for €1,900. Pearl 2 was bred by Sarah Mcelligott, Listowel, Co. Kerry.
