Men due in court after €122,000 drugs seizure in rural area

Gardaí have arrested two men and seized more than €122,000 worth of drugs in Turloughmore, Co Galway.

Gardaí attached to the Galway Divisional Drugs Unit carried out a search of a house in Turloughmore at approximately 5.30pm on Wednesday, January 20th, 2020.

During the search of the house, they located and seized €28,000 worth of suspected cocaine and €10,000 worth of suspected cannabis.

Besides, Gardaí also seized almost €4,000 in cash, a weighing scales and mixing agent.

Males arrested 

In a statement, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána, said: “When Gardaí began the search, one man fled into a nearby field on foot. He was pursued by Gardaí, and observed discarding items in the field.”

“Gardaí recovered a further €84,200 worth of cocaine in this field following the pursuit. This man, who is in his early 30s, was arrested.”

“Gardaí also arrested a second man, in his mid-30s, who was present in the house at the time. Both were detained under the provisions of Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act 1996 at North Western Regional Headquarters, in Murrough, Galway.”

They have since been charged in connection with the drugs seizure and will appear before Galway District Court this afternoon (Thursday, January 21st).

Scrapyard search 

Meanwhile, three males were arrested following the search of a search of a scrapyard in Crossakiel, Co. Meath on Tuesday, January 19th.

The Garda-led search operation in the village resulted in the discovery of two stolen vehicles.

In a statement, on Wednesday, January 21st, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána, said:

“Detective Gardaí from Navan with the assistance of Detective Gardaí from Kells carried out the search under warrant of the scrapyard and identified the two vehicles which had been reported stolen previously.”

“The Stolen Motor Vehicle Investigation Unit attended and assisted Scenes of Crime Unit Meath with an examination of the scene and motor vehicle parts present at the site.”

“Three men were arrested and conveyed to Kells Garda Station where they were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.”

“The three men have been charged and are scheduled to appear before Trim District Court this morning.”
