Carnew Mart report: Strong factory and northern demand

Carnew Mart held its second cattle sale of 2021 on Saturday, January 9^th. The sale attracted some 150 cull cows, 160 heifers, 250 bullocks and 70 calves, according to a report from Carnew Mart manager, David Quinn.

He said: “The trade was significantly improved with strong factory and northern demand for beef and forward store cattle with plenty of farmer active for stores.”

Prices were up on pre-Christmas levels at the mart’s first sale of 2021 the previous week, as reported by us.

Carnew Mart report – sheep sale

Just shy of 1,900 sheep were on offer at Carnew Mart on Thursday, January 7^th, according to David Quinn.

“Trade was fantastic with record prices for January. Heavy lambs sold to €145 with factory lambs selling to €136 and stores selling to €120. Cull ewes topped out – €137.”
