Women shear 2,066 lambs in 9 hours

Four female shearers have made history by establishing a record of 2,066 lambs in nine hours.

Waihi-Pukawa Station near Turangi played host to the four-stand 9 hours world women’s strong wool lambs shearing record, which got underway at 5am and ended at 5pm. 

There was no previous record, but they set a target of 2,000, which they passed in the last quarter-hour, according to Shearing Sports New Zealand.

Megan Whitehead, of Gore, lead the way with 608, Blenheim contractor Sarah Higgins, originally from Havelock, shore 528, Natalya Rangiawha, from Raglan, shore 507, and Amy Silcock, from Wairarapa, Tiraumea, shore 423.
