Weather: Snow expected with lows of -3°C

This weekend’s weather forecast from Met Éireann:

Today (Friday, April 9th, 2021) will be a cool day with a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers, according to Met Éireann.

Showers will become widespread through the afternoon, heavy, possibly with hail.

It will turn wintry at times, with the possibility of snow on higher ground later in the day. Temperatures will reach between 6 to 10 degrees in light to moderate northerly breezes.

It will be cold tonight, with values to fall between -3 to +1 degrees. A widespread to severe frost will form in places with some ice patches.

Scattered wintry showers will clear the south overnight, with further wintry showers set to move into the north.

There will be a cold and bright start tomorrow with some sunny spells. According to the national forecaster, it will be dry in places with wintry showers to descend upon the northwest and northern coasts in the morning.

Cloud will increase throughout the afternoon with some showers of rain, hail and sleet. The national forecaster has warned that these will become widespread later in the day with a risk of thunderstorms.

There will be some snow showers, mainly over higher ground with highs of 5 to 9 degrees, coldest in the north.

Showers will become mainly confined to coastal areas overnight on Saturday night. However, the majority of the country will experience dry conditions with mostly clear skies.

It will be another cold night as temperatures are to set to drop to -3 to 0 degrees with a widespread, sharp frost.

Sunday, April 11th

Met Éireann predicts another cold and bright start to Sunday with some sunny spells and isolated showers.

Cloud will increase from the northwest as the afternoon progresses. Rain will affect most of Ulster and Connacht throughout Sunday.

Elsewhere, in the east and south, it will remain dry with some sunshine.

Sunday night will see the return of outbreaks of rain, mainly in the west and northwest. Elsewhere, it will be mainly dry, with lows of 1 to 5 degrees.
