With a lot of crops of grass around the country nearing their first cut, it is important to know when exactly it should be cut.
Donnchadh Dowling, Dairy Advisor in Teagasc Thurles, has produced a short video on how to assess the suitability of grass for cutting.
Dowling discusses these three tips that are key to cutting at the right time:
- Walk the crop and cut before the seed head appears;
- Test for both nitrogen and sugar;
- The environment (Conditions, weather, etc.).
