With grass growth increasing on sheep farms, now is the ideal time to think about subdividing fields to increase grass utilization, reduce residency times and maintain grass quality.
In this video, Phillip Creighton, Teagasc Sheep Grassland Researcher, discusses the three main reasons for subdivision.
He reveals that the three main reasons are:
- It gives more control of where the sheep are grazing;
- Help improve grass utilization and subsequent regrowth;
- Animal performance.
Creighton then discusses some key considerations to take on board when setting up a subdivision in a field, such as the number of wires, the heights they should be set at and how to manage the power going to your fence.
