VIDEO: Speak up on mental health – farm vloggers

Three of Ireland’s best-known farm vloggers have joined forces to deliver a timely message on mental health.

IFarm WeFarm, Gerry6420 and Farmer Phil collectively highlighted the importance of speaking out about mental health struggles.

In a video, released on social media, Adrian of IFarm WeFarm said: “Mental health is something that doesn’t get near enough coverage, yet it is so common. We all have our dark days, but we look forward to brighter ones.”

“If you are in a bad place, don’t feel ashamed, don’t feel alone, and make sure, speak out.”

‘This will pass’

Farmer Gerry said: “In these strange times, our problems can seem worse. Not being able to do the things we usually do on a daily basis, not being able to see family and friends like we usually can.”

“It’s easy to feel down, not to feel ok. This will pass; you are not alone.”

Farmer Phil said: “Are you ok? It’s a simple question that we can all ask. It is ok not to be ok. It’s ok to talk and share. It’s ok to ask for help. It is ok, and it will be ok.”

International Men’s Day

In the beginning of the video, Adrian highlighted that last Thursday (November 19th), marked International Men’s Day.

Launched in 1999, and now celebrated in more than 80 countries worldwide, International Men’s Day is going from strength to strength. The theme for IMD 2020 was: Better Health for Men and Boys.

Ahead of this year’s campaign, Warwick Marsh from Australia, and coordinator for International Men’s Day explained this year’s aim.

“Our mission this year is to help individuals, families, churches, communities, small business and corporates, including NGOs and Government work towards better health for men and boys.”

“We want to promote the need to value men and boys and help people make practical improvements in men and boy’s health and well-being.”

International Men’s Day encourages men to lead by example. Boys need positive male role models, organisers highlighted. Our broader community also needs positive male role models. The social science research shows that when men as fathers aspire to better health their children do the same.

November is an important month for the masculine soul because it celebrates several events that are important to men.

Movember is the month dedicated to supporting men’s health.

Dr Jerome Teelucksingh, founder of International Men’s Day, from Trinidad & Tobago said, “International Men’s Day has the potential to become the global medium to heal our world.”

“The concept and themes of International Men’s Day are designed to give hope to the depressed, faith to the lonely, comfort to the broken-hearted, transcend barriers, eliminate stereotypes and create a more caring humanity.”
