What is believed to be a new Irish record for a commercial in-calf heifer paid at auction was set in Elphin Mart tonight (Friday, November 7th).
Pushing up to a remarkable €9,000, following a flurry of bids, was a 33-month-old Charolais-cross-Simmental-heifer.
The sale-topper defied the beef gloom when she went under the hammer at part of Martin O’Connor’s annual sale.
The 975kg heifer, by Glen Leon is in in-calf to Simmental AI bull, Popes Grandlam 15 (sexed semen used).
Lot 21A, a “powerful Charolais-Simmental-cross heifer”, is due on November 23rd, 2020.
As Tom Cox’s hammer came down, he said: “I told you she was the cover girl”.
