Covid-19’s impact on the wedding industry, resulting in many couples postponing their big day, has been highlighted by one independent TD.
The matter was raised by Michael Healy-Rae during Leaders’ Questions yesterday (Thursday, October 8th).
His daughter was due to tie the knot this weekend; however, the wedding has been cancelled because of Covid-19 restrictions.
“I’m going to get a small bit personal about this, not because she is my daughter … but there are many other people’s daughters,” he told Tánaiste Leo Varadkar
“Rosie Healy-Rae and Micheál Ó’Sé, a very nice, young, respectable, local man, were getting married this Saturday. It’s cancelled.”
“The implications of that, the hotel, the hairdressers, the car hire people, the people who provide the flowers, the economic bang when that wedding is cancelled is enormous.”
“That’s only an example of how many other people. 10/10/20 was going to be their special day, like a bag of fertiliser,” he added.
Commiserations to @MHealyRae‘s daughter Rosie who was due to get married on Saturday, but who had to cancel the day because of Covid-19 restrictions.
