Up to €1,980 for cull cows at Elphin

“A 97% clearance of dry cows with very good demand for good quality” were the words of Gerry Connellan who spoke following Monday’s (August 17th) general cattle sale.

The average price achieved in the cull cow ring was €1,257 as prices ranged from €550 to €1980 for a 980 kg Belgian Blue.

Bulls

An 86% clearance was reported in this week, with an average price of €1,402; prices ranged from €1,040 to €1,580 for an Aberdeen Angus weighing 980kg.

Heifers

All heifers offered for sale found new homes according to Connellan.

  • > 500 kg: The average price achieved was €1,160 with a maximum price of €1,190 for a 560 kg Aberdeen Angus.

Bull weanlings

“78% clearance of bull weanlings with prices steady governed by quality.”

  • < 300 kg: The average price achieved was €673 with a maximum price of €740 for a 290 kg Charolais;
  • 300-400 kg: The average price achieved was €9220 with a maximum price of €1,220 for a 360 kg Charolais;
  • 400-500 kg: The average price achieved was €1,010 with a maximum price of €1,070 for a 435 kg Charolais.
  • > 500 kg: The average price achieved was €927 with a maximum price of €970 for a 525 kg Simmental.

“88% clearance of heifer weanlings with prices governed by quality.”

  • < 300 kg: The average price achieved was €670 with a maximum price of €740 for a 275 kg Limousin;
  • 300-400kg: The average price achieved was €810 with a maximum price of €910 for a 370 kg Charolais;’
  • 400-500 kg: The average price achieved was €853 with a maximum price of €1,220 for A 360 kg Charolais;
  • >500 kg: the average price achieved was €1,125 with a maximum price of €1,170 for a 505 kg Limousin.

Sheep

A full clearance of lambs with the following prices recorded:

  • 55.5 kg – €135;
  • 48 kg – €116.5;
  • 46 kg – €108.5;
  • 43.5 kg – €106.5;
  • 40.5 kg – €97;
  • 36 kg – €90.

Ewes:

“82% clearance of ewes as prices ranged from €40 to €131. Breeding ewes ranged from €160 to €201; ewe with lamb at foot €103.” Connellan added.
