‘High level of activity’ from farmers for stores at Tuam

Tuam Mart – cattle prices – 26-07-2021

According to a spokesperson, there was a “superb” trade for all types of cattle at Tuam Mart’s cattle sale on Monday, July 26th, 2021.

They reported that the cow trade remained “strong with a keen demand” for fleshed continental types. Entries in this ring peaked at €2.36/kg and averaged €2.00/kg.”

“A super SIX cow by a Spiddal farmer weighing a whopping 1,005 kg made €2,050 (€2.03/kg). Also, a LMX cow by a Ballinasloe farmer weighing 665kg made €1400 (€2.11/kg).”

“The top price paid was for a LMX cow by a Tuam farmer, 780 kg at €1,840 (€2.36/kg).

“Cull dairy cows made from €1.50/kg for a 605 kg FR cow €910 to €1,060 for a 595 kg FRX cow (€1.78/kg). Besides, a LMX first-calver with a calf at foot made €1,580.”

Heifers

The spokesperson noted that the heifer trade remained strong for stores and beef entries.

“A CHX heifer by a Moylough farmer weighing 450 kg made €1,240 (€2.76/kg). A 395kg CHX by a Ballinasloe farmer made €1,050 )€2.66/kg).

“Also, a 440 kg LMX heifer by a Dunmore farmer made €1,300 (€2.95/kg). A 480kg CHX heifer made €1370 (€2.85/kg) and a sweet CHX heifer weighing 425kg made €1310 (€3.08/kg).”

“There was also a selection of AAX heifers presented for sale with prices ranging from €2/kg to €2.59/kg. An AAX weighing 345 kg made €730 €2.12/kg, while a 370 kg AAX heifer made €960 (€2.59/kg).”

“There was a limited number of weanling heifers on offer to meet the strong demand by farmers. Prices started at €850 for a LM (€2.70/kg). The top price was €910 for a 315kg, LMX, €2.89/kg. Weanling heifers averaged at €2.76/kg.”

Bullocks

Furthermore, they reported that a “strong” trade prevailed for all types of bullocks with a “high level of activity” from farmers for store cattle.

“A 290kg LMX bullock from a Tuam farmer made €860 (€2.90). There was large demand for bullocks between 300 – 400 kg with a LMX from a Tuam farmer weighing 365 kg making €1080 (€2.96/kg).”

“A 380 kg CHX bullock from a Claregalway farmer made €,1050 €2.76/kg. Three AAX 395kg made €970 (€2.46/kg).

Bullocks from 300 – 400 kg topped at €2.96/kg and averaged at €2.36/kg.

Furthermore, bullocks from 400-500 topped at €3.00/kg for a CHX weighing, 450 kg, €1350.

“This weight division was dominated by continental type cattle predominantly CHX and LMX.”

“A 455 CHX made €1180 (€2.59/kg). A HEX weighing 595 kg made €1220 €2.05/kg. A heavier HEX, 727 kg, made €1,540 (€2.12/kg).

“A FR weighing 595 kg made €1,100 (€1.85/kg). A 760kg CHX by a Belclare farmer made €1,900 (€2.50/kg),” the spokesperson added.

Weanlings

“Super CHX and LMX weanling bulls were on offer by a Hollymount farmer. Top price paid was for a shapey 380 kg LM bull €1,040 (€2.74/kg). A 375 kg CHX made €960 (€2.56/kg). Weanling bulls averaged at €2.66/kg,” the spokesperson concluded.
