BE (trailer) test: What counties have the highest pass rate?

Just under 2,850 BE tests per annum, on average, have taken place in Ireland over the past five years (from 2018-2022 inclusive), data provided to That’s Farming by the RSA (Road Safety Authority) shows, writes farming journalist Catherina Cunnane.

3,973 BE tests took place in 2019 with an 81.4% pass rate, with the next highest of 3,298 in 2018 with a slightly higher pass rate of 82.2%, followed by 2,114 with an 82.9% pass rate in 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic began.

2021 saw the lowest volume of BE tests in the country in many years, with Covid-19 induced restrictions, resulting in 1,877 tests taking place with a pass rate of 78.9%.

The data from 2014 to 2022 inclusive, supplied to this publication, shows that BE test numbers fell below 2,000 to 1,900 in 2014, with numbers keeping above this, at 2,684 in 2015, 3,022 in 2016 and 3,609 in 2017.

With the removal of Covid-19 restrictions, a further 3,010 BE tests took place last year with a pass rate across the board of 80.9%.

In 2022, tests booked ranged from 11-323, with a pass rate of 57.1% to 94%, while in 2021, between 5-325 BE tests were booked, with a pass rate of 59.3%-100% and in 2020, between 10-193 BE tests took place with a pass rate of between – 68.6%-100%.
