Teenage girl dies after tractor collides with ditch

A female, aged in her late teens, has died following a single-vehicle road traffic collision involving a tractor in Co Cavan.

The collision occurred on the L2514 at Loughduff, Co. Cavan, on Tuesday, May 30th, 2023, at approximately 11 pm.

In a statement to www.thatsfarming.com, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána:

“A female juvenile (aged in her late teens) was fatally injured when the tractor collided with a ditch.”

“Her body has been removed from the scene to the mortuary in Cavan General Hospital, where a post-mortem will take place in due course.”

“A male juvenile (aged in his late teens) who was driving the tractor was uninjured.”

“The road is currently closed pending an examination by forensic collision investigators. Local diversions are in place,” the spokesperson added.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 10.45 pm and 11.15 pm are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

Meanwhile, as previously reported by That’s Farming, a 13-year-old boy has died in hospital following a single-vehicle road traffic collision in the west of Ireland, Gardaí have confirmed.

Shortly after 8:15 pm, on Saturday, May 20th, 2023, Gardaí and emergency services were alerted after a tractor overturned on a local road (L1610) at Scarduane near Claremorris.

The driver and sole occupant of the tractor, a 13-year-old boy, was treated at the scene for serious injuries and remove​​d to Galway University Hospital, according to a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána.

The boy was subsequently transferred to Temple Street Hospital, Dublin, where he passed away earlier today, Sunday, May 21st, 2023.

A technical examination of the scene was conducted by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, and the road at the crash site has since fully reopened to traffic.
