Rare Dutch Spotted bloodlines in Croke’s and Kelly’s timed auction

29 lots are catalogued for the inaugural, highly anticipated Supreme Summer Sale, which will run from Thursday, May 18th to Saturday, May 21st, 2023, on Elite Pedigree Sales’ online platform.

Jim Croke, who established the Fethard, Co. Tipperary-based Tullamain Flock in 2012, has joined forces with guest consigner, Eamon Kelly of the Kildangan Flock, in Puckaun, Co. Tipperary, to host the timed live auction.

Entries include:

  • One pedigree ewe with two lambs at foot (Kildangan Flock);
  • Ten hogget ewes imported from Holland from a  renowned family;
  • Eleven ewe lambs (six from the Kildangan Flock, January-born and five from Tullamain Pedigrees, which were born in late February and come with a recipient);
  • Seven ram lambs, two from Kildangan Flock and five from Tullamain Pedigrees; all January born.

The January rams from both flocks are sired by one of Tullamain Pedigrees’ imported stock rams.

The February lambs are sired by Lisfort Fairfax, bred by Shannon and Finbar Murphy from Co Monaghan.

The ram made waves in the industry when he secured the coveted title of champion lamb at the breed association’s esteemed Blessington sale in September 2022 and is now owned by the Kildangan flock.

Croke comments

Speaking to That’s Farming editor, Catherina Cunnane, ahead of the sale, Croke said:

“I have decided to push Tullamain Pedigrees on and have our own sale.”

“This is a very rare opportunity to acquire top breeding stock origination in Holland. The bloodlines have only been exported twice from Holland – once to the UK and once to Ireland.”

“It is getting harder to import stock from Holland due to import registration fees and the fact that Holland’s agricultural ministry will only allow a transporter to stop at one destination.”

“The Supreme Summer Sale is an online timed auction, which provides you with the convenience and accessibility to bid on exceptional Dutch Spotted sheep from anywhere in the world.”

“Viewing will be by appointment. For contact information, visit this link.

An Interview with Pedigree Sales LTD

Renowned cattle breeder and entrepreneur, Tommy Staunton, Co. Galway has been instrumental in changing the way pedigree livestock breeders across the country and the UK do business.

Establishing an online sales platform, Pedigree Sales, for his own use, paved the way for a sectoral change, enabling breeders to “sell direct off-farm on a national stage”.

He created the platform in 2016 to showcase, market, promote and sell young heifers and bulls from his pedigree herd, Caramba Beef Shorthorn.

By repeating the Caramba Beef Shorthorn online sale in 2017 and 2018, he “quickly realised” that the online livestock sales sector was a “super” way of marketing his own cattle to a wider audience.

Tommy formed a small team of tech professionals and began developing a new and improved platform to allow buyers and sellers to trade in an online marketplace that is 100% dedicated to the agricultural sector.

“We are very proud of the platform we have today. It is user-friendly, and we believe it is best in its class for the services we now provide,” he remarked.

The mission from the outset and still is today is to market, showcase and promote every animal or herd it works with to the best of its ability across the UK and Ireland.
