Shearling ewes from the Wedderburn flock of Jonathan and Janet Corbett, Newent, Glos, were in hot demand on Saturday at Worcester for the Society sale of Dutch Spotted sheep.
Dutch Spotted prices reached 2600gns on two occasions at the Dutch Spotted Society’s sale at Worcester Livestock Mart, on Saturday, August 5th, 2023.
Leading the charge at the afternoon sale was March 2022 born (twin), Wedderburn Forest, a Glencoy (Liam Campbell, Northern Ireland) Chance (has sold progeny to 18,000gns) daughter out of a Hiroshima daughter, Lochlad Cuckoo, who was purchased for 3500gns.
Dutch Spotted prices
Joining her on the trailer back home to Somerset with the same purchaser and at the same money was March 2022 born twin, Wedderburn Flower, an Beili Everett daughter out of an imported female.
Next on the price table at 1800gns was another shearling ewe from the Corbett family in the form of Wedderburn Faith ET, born on February 1st, 2023.
This Boyo Easy On The Eye daughter is out of the Lochlad Cpt Jack Sparrow daughter, Lochlad Danika.
According to the breeder, “the dam is a big, strong, correct ewe and the sire was purchased for £5,000 out of the 6500gns Camilla”.
Ewe lambs
Meanwhile, the ewe lamb trade topped at 2,000gns for Windrush Glamorous ET (single), a January 27th, 2023, born entry, from Windrush Farming Partners, Cheltenham, Glos.
She is by the 2500gns Carlaustan Ego, who sold for 2,500gns in Carlisle in 2022 and has since won male champion and reserve breed champion at RTCS 2023 and an imported female, Daisy of Beech Hay.
Meanwhile, at 1,850gns the Corbetts were back in action selling Wedderburn Gladys ET.
She is a Merryborro Fastandfurious daughter out of the “hugely successful” Diamond flock’s Bella family, Diamond Electra ET (Emma Allen, Northern Ireland), born as a single ET on January 9th, 2023.
Ram lambs
At Saturday’s sale ram lambs met a top call of 1500gns, again for the Wedderburn flock, this time for a substitute entry, Wedderburn Golden Balls, and he is heading across the waters to northern Irish soil.
Meanwhile, the shearling ram trade peaked at 800gns for Saveoak Flintoff ET for Laura Monk, Truro, Cornwall, a Lochlad Dictator son out of an imported female.
Summary – averages
According to a spokesperson for the society, 7 shearling ewes levelled at, £1755, while 12 ewe lambs averaged £1242.50.
Meanwhile, 10 shearling rams sold for an average of £617.40 and 10 ram lambs saw an average call of £867 at last Saturday’s sale.
New record price of €6,700
Meanwhile, on the same day, across the pond in Carrick-on-Shannon, an ET January-2023-born Dutch Spotted ram lamb set a new Irish breed record after selling for €6,700 at the breed association’s annual sale.
Dwayne Shiels, Co Donegal bred lot 38, Woodtown Gangnam Style, the son of Woodview Eva, herself a Challoch Bearskin (has bred females to £11,000) daughter, and Craigdoo Fabio ET, by the famed Carlaustan Extrovert, the 2022 Balmoral champion, who has bred lambs to £28,000 and 2022 Balmoral champion, Kilroot Electric.
