Shortage of numbers driving sheep prices upwards at Kilkenny Mart

A sheep sale at Kilkenny Mart attracted some 450 entries on Monday, November 16th, according to George Candler.

The mart’s auctioneer reported an “excellent trade” for all sheep which led to a full clearance. “A shortage of numbers is the main driving force behind the good prices.”

He noted that lambs peaked at €128, while cull ewes climbed to €134.

Butcher lambs – €2.20-€2.46/kg or €117-€128/head;

  • X12 50kg – €123.
Factory lambs – €2.35-€2.51/kg or €104-€115/head;

  • X15 43kgs – €104.
Store lambs – €2.20-€2.51/kg or €74-€101/head;
  • X15 41kgs – €101;
  • X8 38kgs – €90;

  • X8 33kgs – €74.
