Sheep trade remains firm at Kilkenny Mart

Kilkenny Mart’s sheep sale, which was held on Monday (October 19th), attracted some 400 entries, according to George Candler.

Following the general sale, the auctioneer said: “Numbers are decreasing with trade remaining firm and, in cases, ahead of last week’s returns.”

“Butcher, factory and store lambs were all in demand with cull ewe numbers smaller, which created a good selling trade.”

Summary

  • Butcher lambs – €1.95-€2.25/kg or €108-€118/head;
  • Factory lambs – €2.30-€2.43/kg or €98-€112/head;
  • Store lambs – €2.35-€2.67/kg or €78-€96/head;
  • Cast ewes – €45-€127/head.
