Sheep Trade: Quotes plummet as national kill reaches over 1.7 million

Lamb quotes have dropped further with plants paying between €5.00-€5.20/kg (including bonuses) this week. 

It has been reported that an additional 10-20c/kg is being paid to producer groups.

Cull ewe quotes remain unchanged from last week, standing between €2.50-€2.80/kg.

Throughput

The national sheep kill for the week commencing Monday, August 3rd stood at 44,232 head, according to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s (DAFM) database.

The figures show that the kill was down over 6,300 head on the corresponding week in 2019, as outlined below.

  • Spring lambs: 36,889;
  • Ewes and rams: 7,239;
  • Light lambs: 0.

  • Ewes and rams: 7,239;
  • Light lambs: 44;
  • Total: 1,705,470.
