Sheep Prices – Livestock Mart – That’s Farming Report

In this article on www.thatsfarming.com, we take a look at sheep prices in livestock marts – Ennis, Dowra and Headford.

According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, just over 650 came under the hammers at its weekly sheep sale on Monday, August 28th, 2023.

Heavy ewes weighing 94kgs hit €196, while ewe hoggets in the breeding section maxed out at €245.

The spokesperson noted that “butcher lambs were no dearer overall with very little store lambs on offer”.

“Meanwhile, ewe prices were also back in line with factory quotes,” the spokesperson added.

Lamb prices:

  • 10 @ 55kgs – €160 – €2.88/kg;
  • 9 @ 49kgs – €156 – €3.18/kg;
  • 4 @ 45kgs – €148 – €3.25/kg;
  • 12 @ 49kgs – €153 – €3.12/kg;
  • 12 @ 51kgs – €154 – €2.99/kg;
  • 5 @ 50kgs – €149 – €2.98/kg;
  • 15 @ 50kgs – €145 – €2.90/kg;
  • 7 @ 45kgs – €141 – €3.13/kg;
  • 5 @ 44kgs – €139 – €3.15/kg;
  • 13 @ 51kgs – €155 – €3.03/kg.

Dowra Mart

Friday, August 25th, 2023, saw over 4,500 sheep cross the scales at Dowra Mart, according to a spokesperson.

Fat lambs topped out at €150 for 10 weighing 50kg, while 10 store lambs weighing 35kg sold for €110.

Ewe lambs:

  • 6 Weighing 38kg @ €116;
  • 10 Weighing 35kg @ €110;
  • 12 Weighing 31kg @ €105;
  • 21 Weighing 31kg @ €104;
  • 15 Weighing 32kg @ €97.

Store lambs:

  • 20 Weighing 34kg @ €95;
  • 22 Weighing 34kg @ €94.50;
  • 10 Weighing 33kg @ €89;
  • 22 Weighing 32kg @ €87;
  • 20 Weighing 30.5kg @ €86.50;
  • 15 Weighing 33.5kg @ €84.50;
  • 9 Weighing 27kg @ €84;
  • 24 Weighing 31kg @ €81.50;
  • 20 Weighing 29kg @ €80;
  • 14 Weighing 29kg @ €79.

According to a spokesperson for Headford Co-operative Livestock Mart, store/factory lambs topped at €150/head, while ewe lambs soared to €192/head and breeding ewe hoggets made up to €228/head.

Store/ Factory Lambs

  • 49 kg making €150 per head or 3.06 kg;
  • 53 kg making €144 per head or 2.76 kg;
  • 31 kg making €70 per head or 2.25 kg;
  • 47 kg making €130 per head or 2.76 kg;
  • 42 kg making €125 per head or 2.97 kg.

Ewe lambs

  • 50 kg making € 169 per head or 3.38 kg;
  • 48 kg making € 167 per head or 3.48 kg;
  • 41 kg making € 157 per head or 3.83 kg;
  • 47 kg making €145 per head or 3.09 kg.

Cull ewes

  • 86 kg making € 135 per head
  • 100 kg making €192 per head

Breeding ewe hoggets

  • Prices from €180 up to €228 per head.
