A warning has been issued to dog owners after sheep were injured on a farm.
Dumfries and Galloway Police division said that following a recent incident of sheep worrying near Moniaive, where a dog attacked and injured a farmer’s livestock, it wants to “raise awareness to all dog owners”.
“Livestock worrying is when farm animals are attacked or chased by dogs; this can have devastating effects on the animals, farmers and their businesses.”
It is asking the general public to consider the following points when walking their dogs;
- Don’t take your dog into fields where there are lambs, calves or other young farm animals;
- If you go into a field with farm animals, keep your dog on a short lead or close to heel and stay as far away from the animals as possible;
- If cattle react aggressively and move towards you, keep calm and take the shortest, safest route out of the field.
