Roscommon: Dry cows continue to lead the charge at €2,680

Roscommon Co-Operative Livestock Mart – Cattle Prices – 20-01-2023

According to a spokesperson for Roscommon Mart, there was a large entry of stock on offer at its heifer sale last Friday, January 20th, 2023.

They noted that a “strong” trade prevailed for all stock, with between €3.01 per kilo up to €3.38 per kg on the table for heifers.

The spokesperson noted: “We had another good showing of dry cows which made an average of €2.61 per kilo up to €3.33 per kilo.”

“There was a good attendance of customers at the ringside with online bidders also active,” the spokesperson remarked.

Heifers ranged from an average €3.01-€3.38/kg:

Mart manager 

Roscommon Mart has appointed a new manager in the form of Tony Conry “following a competitive recruitment process”, its board of directors has confirmed.

Maura Quigley is set to retire from the position, following 45 years of service to the cattle and sheep mart, in the coming months.

She joined the mart in October 1977 and became its general manager in January 2012.

A spokesperson for the board of directors said that Conry “brings a wide range of skills to the position, having extensive experience in the financial and agricultural sectors along with operating a part-time farm enterprise”.

A 2019 business graduate of IIPMM Dublin, his most recent role sees him working as a regional sales manager with LoanITT since 2020.

He has previously completed stints with Kepak Athleague, Bank of Scotland, Ireland and Vendor Finance.
