VIDEO: 2-robot farmer’s low-cost conversion to dairying

In spring 2019, Peter Anderson from County Kildare converted to a robotic milking system from suckling, installing a Lely A5 to milk 64 heifers on a grass-based system.

The following spring, he installed his second Lely A5 and increased numbers to 100 cows with an average production of 490kg of milk solids.

For 2021, the new dairy entrant aims to milk 130 cows on the system. In a recent virtual open day, hosted by Lely Center Mullingar, Peter provided an insight into his low-cost conversion process.

Also, he discussed how the robotic milking system has worked for the farm to date and how the information he obtains from his robots helps him to make daily management decisions.
