Drivers hospitalised after car collides with rear of tractor in Mayo

The drivers of a tractor and car have been hospitalised following a road traffic collision in Co. Mayo.

The incident occurred on Friday evening (February 5th), according to Gardaí.

In a statement to That’s Farming, this afternoon (Sunday, February 7th) a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said:

“Gardaí are investigating a road traffic collision involving a car and tractor that occurred on the Bohola Road, Kiltimagh, Co. Mayo on Friday, February 5th, 2021 at approximately 9.40pm.”

“A car collided with the rear of a tractor on the stretch of road. The drivers of both vehicles were taken to Mayo University Hospital as a precaution. Enquiries are ongoing.”

22-year-old dies after collision with jeep

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the west of Ireland, a 22-year-old died following a collision with a jeep in Sligo earlier this week.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the shortly after 5pm on Thursday, February 4th, 2021on the R278 at Magheranrush in Calry, Co.Sligo.

The collision involved a car and a jeep. The driver of the car, a 22 year-old man, was taken from the scene to Sligo University Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later, according to a statement from An Garda Síochána.

The driver of the jeep, a 35-year-old man, was taken to Sligo University Hospital.

Forensic Collision Investigators have examined the scene, according to Gardaí. The road remains closed with diversions currently in place.

Appeal for witnesses

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward and for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area at the time to make this footage available to Gardaí.

In particular, anyone who may have been travelling on either the R286 or R278 between 4.30pm and 5.30pm.
