Cattle to €1,440 over the kg in ‘improved’ trade at Raphoe

An “improved” trade prevailed at Raphoe Mart’s most recent cattle sale on Thursday, July 21st, 2022.

That is according to Ann Harkin, mart manager, who reported that a “good” entry went under the hammer at its weekly general cattle sale.

She reported that “many” lots changed hands from €2.80/kg to €3.40/kg with bullocks to €1390 over the weight and heifers to €1,440 over the kg.

Raphoe Mart 21-07-2022:

Lighter lots traded from €2.60/kg to €3.40/kg, while Friesian cattle sold from €1.80/kg to €2.30/kg and Aberdeen Angus cattle fetched from €2.20/kg to €2.80/kg.

  • Bulls over 600kgs – €915 to €1110 over the weight;
  • Beef heifers – €875 to €1440 over the weight;
  • Store heifers – €350 to €790 over the weight;
  • Fat cows sold from €600/head to €2120/head;
  • Beef bullocks – €605 to €1390 over the weight;
  • Store bullocks – €555 to €905 over the weight.
This Week’s Sheep Prices

According to Harkin, prices reached €190/head at Monday’s (July 18th, 2022) sheep sale.

Fat ewes sold from €80-€190/head at the Donegal-based mart’s most recent sheep sale.

Lambs, 26-34kgs, made from €80-€100, while those in the 35-38kg weight bracked ranged from €100-€120.

Meanwhile, 39-43kg lambs varied from €120-€140, while those in the 44-50kg bracket pushed from €140-€150.

Last week’s cattle prices

According to Ann Harkin, a “strong” trade prevailed around the ring at Raphoe Mart’s cattle sale on Thursday, July 14th, 2022.

The mart manager reported that prices were “on par” with returns that the mart recorded the previous week.

Speaking following the sale, she said: “Forward cattle sold to €1340 over the weight while cows reached prices of €3200 for 995kg cow.”

“Lighter cattle also sold well, ranging in price from €2.30/kg for plainer lots to over €3/kg for quality stock.”

Aberdeen Angus cattle went under the hammer from €2.20/kg to €2.70/kg, while Friesian cattle changed hands from €1.80/kg to €2.30/kg.
