‘Brisk bidding’ leads to ‘super’ cattle trade at Raphoe

According to Ann Harkin, there was a “great” entry of cattle at Raphoe Mart on Thursday, September 10th, 2021.

The mart manager reported the sale attracted a “lot of great quality cattle” which met with a “super” trade as a result of “brisk bidding throughout the sale”.

“Strong forward cattle were in great demand selling from €2.50/kg to €2.80/kg. Medium weights sold from €2.60/kg to €2.90/kg.”

“Lighter weights sold from €2.50/kg to €3/kg. Aberdeen Angus and Hereford cattle sold from €1.80/kg to €2.30/kg.”

“Quality Friesian cattle sold up to €2/kg, while plainer lots made from €1.50/kg to €1.90/kg,” Harkin added.

Cattle prices the previous week

Ann Harkin reported that factory-fit bullocks and heifers reached €1,060 over the kg at Raphoe Mart on Thursday, September 2nd, 2021.

This week, the mart manager reported that “an excellent entry of cattle” went under the hammer at the Donegal-based mart.

“Strong forward store cattle remained a great trade with factory agents and feedlot buyers were anxious for these.”

“Medium weights were up in price this week with cattle 400kg to 500kg in great demand with more farmers looking to purchase. These were selling from €2.40/kg to €2.80/kg.”

“Strong Friesian cattle sold well on the day selling from €1.70/kg to €2/kg. Lighter, plainer lots sold from €1.40/kg to €1.70/kg.”

Sheep prices at Raphoe Mart

Harkin reported “another large entry of sheep this week with an excellent trade for all on offer”.

Lamb prices 
  • €80 to €100 for 27-33 kgs;
  • €100 to €110 for 34-36 kgs;
  • €110 to €120 for 37-42 kgs;
  • €120 to €130 for 43-47 kgs;
  • €130 to €140 for 48-55 kgs.
