Bullocks and heifers to €1,060 over at Raphoe

Raphoe Mart report – cattle prices – 02-09-2021

Ann Harkin reported that factory-fit bullocks and heifers reached €1,060 over the kg at Raphoe Mart on Thursday, September 2nd, 2021.

This week, the mart manager reported that “an excellent entry of cattle” went under the hammer at the Donegal-based mart.

“Strong forward store cattle remained  a great trade with factory agents and feedlot buyers were anxious for these.”

“Medium weights were up in price this week with cattle 400kg to 500kg in great demand with more farmers looking to purchase. These were selling from €2.40/kg to €2.80/kg.”

“Strong Friesian cattle sold well on the day selling from €1.70/kg to €2/kg. Lighter, plainer lots sold from €1.40/kg to €1.70/kg.”

Raphoe Mart 02-09-2021:

  • Heifers made from €2.10/kg to €2.90/kg;
  • Bulls/bullocks sold from €2/kg to €2.80/kg;
  • Fat cows fetched from €800/head to €1510/head.

  • Bulls over 600 kgs – €570 to €1060 over
  • Beef bullocks – €580 to €910 over
  • Store bullocks – €400 to €890 over
  • Beef heifers – €500 to €1065 over
  • Store heifers – €350 to €730 over
Cattle prices at last week’s sale

According to Ann Harkin, a “great entry” of cattle went under the hammer at Raphoe Mart on Thursday, August 26th, 2021.

The mart manager reported that “strong, quality cattle sold to a strong trade with buyers still anxious to purchase these”.

“These sold from €2.40/kg to €2.70/kg. Meanwhile, plainer lots sold from €2.10/kg to €2.40/kg.”

“Medium weights were also a great trade, selling from €2.50/kg to €2.90/kg for quality lots, with plainer lots from €2.10/kg to €2.50/kg.”

“Meanwhile, lighter lots sold from €2.50/kg to €2.90/kg for quality lots with plainer lots from €2.20/kg to €2.50/kg.”

“Friesian bullocks sold from €1.60/kg to €1.90/kg from 430kgs to 500kgs animals. Lighter Friesian bulls sold from €1.40/kg to €1.60/kg,” she concluded.

Sheep prices this week:

Harkin reported a “strong” trade with both online and ringside at this week’s sheep sale.

Lambs sold at:
  • €80 to €100 for 27-35kgs;
  • €100 to €110 for 35-39kgs;
  • €110 to €120 for 39-42kgs;
  • €120 to €130 for 42-45kgs;
  • €130 to €138 for 46-52kgs.
