New real-time monitoring technology set to transform poultry industry

MSD Animal Health has announced the launch of Poultry Sense.

The company believes the real-time monitoring technology will transform poultry production.

It will allow producers to predict flock health, enhance performance and ultimately improve sustainability at a farm level.

Poultry Sense

Alan Beynon, managing director of Poultry Sense, said, “Having access to this level of data and using this to make informed decisions on-farm will allow producers to improve bird performance as well as help the sector as a whole to become more transparent.”

The Poultry Sense solution consists of numerous battery-powered wireless sensors that capture real-time data across environmental and performance parameters.

This includes bird weight, air pressure, humidity, temperature and carbon dioxide.

This data is then fed directly into an analytics platform that artificial intelligence drives, providing easy to interpret data.

Producers and advisers can then use this insight to help accurately predict flock health, enhance performance and improve farm sustainability.

24/7 data collection

“This solution collects data 24 hours a day. This means that any shift in environmental or performance parameters, which could indicate a problem, can be identified quickly.”

“Having the capability to react swiftly to any changes will minimise the impact this has on bird health and performance and, therefore, the likelihood of it affecting the ‘end product’.”

By using the data and analytics this solution provides, producers will also be able to identify trends and patterns in performance.

“It is this intricate level of detail that’s going to evolve the efficiency of poultry production,” he added.

This new technology is now commercially available and ready to be deployed on poultry farms across the UK.

MSD Animal Health Intelligence

In February of this year, MSD Animal Health announced the completion of its acquisition of Poultry Sense from its founding shareholders.

In March 2019, MSD Animal Health invested in Poultry Sense Ltd. to support its development.

The Poultry Sense Ltd. product portfolio joins MSD Animal Health Intelligence. The newly formed specialised operating unit takes its name from the company’s strategic vision for animal health intelligence and data expertise.
