A potato farmer in the US has offered free potatoes to members of the public during the COVID-19 crisis, as they would otherwise be dumped.
The farmer, based in Idaho, cited a fall in demand due to COVID-19 as the reason for the large surplus of the crop.
In a social media post, Ryan Cranney of Cranney farms said: “FREE POTATOES – We started dumping potatoes today as we have no home for them because of this COVID-19 disaster.”
“The potato supply chain has definitely been turned up-side-down. If you would like a few bags, come on by. 1300 South 700 West Oakley, Idaho.”
