Poots heaps praise on ‘unseen heroes’ of Covid-19

Agricultural Minister for Northern Ireland, Edwin Poots, has heaped praise on farm supply business for their role in providing essential services for farmers.

He highlighted the importance of the supply chain of feed, equipment, supplies and services in order to carry on producing food in a recent statement.

Poots said: “This supply chain consists of ‘unseen’ heroes – small family-run businesses, self-employed individuals, rural shops and online supply stores in rural areas. Their continued support to the food and farming sector is vital as we battle against Covid-19.”

“On behalf of us all, I’d like to thank our food heroes, from the feed supply stores for provision of animal feed, fertiliser and seeds, veterinary practitioners for attending to animals, farm contractors, farm machinery businesses for servicing and parts, and the mechanics for keeping farm vehicles operational.”

He concluded by saying: “We are all in this fight together, so please remember when buying your groceries, or sitting down to eat your dinner, that it would not be possible without our ‘unseen heroes’ in the farm supply chain.”
