Poorly-fed Friesian calves a hard sell at Kanturk

Kanturk Mart’s general cattle sale attracted over 1,300 entries, including 700 calves, on Tuesday, March 3rd, according to Seamus O’Keeffe.

“Plenty of customers for all animals except for poor Friesian bulls with no milk in them.” the mart manager outlined.

Calves:

  • HE bulls – €200 – €380;
  • HE heifers – €170 – €310;
  • AA bulls – €130 – €270;
  • AA heifers – €80 – €230;
  • FR bulls – €20 – €110.

Dry cows:

  • 1 FR – 745kgs – €950;
  • 1 FR – 620kgs – €890;
  • 1 FR – 635kgs – €800.

Heifers:

  • 2 AA – 525kgs – €970;
  • 6 HE – 570kgs – €980;
  • 6 AA – 440kgs – €815.

Bullocks:

  • 6 AA – 507kgs – €1,005;
  • 10 HE – 506kgs – €980;
  • 8 HE – 340kgs – €710;
  • 6 FR – 300kgs – €560.

Calf promotion for the month of March: 

  • Winner of Best HE bull – Pat Healy, Millstreet;
  • Winner of the best AA bull – Simon O’Sullivan, Pulleen, Kanturk.
