Gardaí in the midlands have launched an investigation after 200 laurel plants were stolen from a field.
It is understood that the theft occurred in Gillstown, Athboy, Co. Meath between Thursday, May 6th and Wednesday, May 12th, 2021. According to Gardaí, the plants have an estimated value of approximately €1,800.
Plants stolen from field
In a statement on Friday, May 14th, 2021, a spokesperson for Meath Crime Prevention said:
“Kells Garda are investigating the theft of approximately 200 laurel plants which were stolen from a field in Gillstown, Athboy, Co. Meath between the 06/05/2021 and the 12/05/2021. The hedging was planted at the time of the theft and would have taken a considerable time to remove.”
“The plants are unique owing to their size, 1.4 -1.5 metres in height and the fact that they are root balled. These plants were imported from Holland, and the combined value of them is approximately €1,800.”
“If anyone observed any vehicles or persons acting suspiciously in the area between the 06/05/2021 and the 12/05/2021, can they please make contact with Kells Garda Station on 046-9280820,” the spokesperson concluded.
Cattle killed in 3-vehicle collision
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the county, Gardaí have launched an investigation after a number of cattle were killed in a traffic incident in the midlands on Wednesday, May 12th, 2021.
The incident occurred on the M3 motorway in Co. Meath earlier this morning.
In a statement to That’s Farming, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána, said:
“Gardaí and emergency services are attending the scene of a three-vehicle road traffic collision on the M3 northbound.”
“The road is closed between J5 Dunboyne and J6 Dunshaughlin. Delays are expected. No injuries have been reported. Investigations are ongoing,” the spokesperson added.
In a brief update, AA Roadwatch said: “The M3 northbound remains closed at J6 Dunshaughlin as emergency services deal with a collision. Diversions are in place, including for some Bus Éireann routes.”
