Plainer types harder sold at Castlerea Mart

Numbers presented for sale at Castlerea Mart remained strong this week, according to Brendan Egan.

He noted that demand for quality stock held well, while plainer-types were harder sold.

“In the weanling rings, demand for the quality calves was on par with previous weeks while in the heifer and cow rings prices were similar to last week.”

HEIFERS:  
  • CHX – 410KGS – €1080;
  • LM – 415KGS – €1050;
  • CH – 420KGS – €1040;
  • LMX – 480KGS – €1170;
  • CH – 440KGS – €1130;
  • LMX – 610KGS – €1300;

DRY COWS:

  • €380 to a top price of €1210 paid for a Simmental heifer calf.

Similar strong trade on Monday last with increased numbers of stock presented for sale, according to Egan.

“Quality stores were in good demand, while the lesser quality animals tended to be a little easier, but overall, a good clearance took place.”
