VIDEO: Simmental bull sells for 26,000gns

Pistyll Kingsman 19 set a new Welsh record for a Simmental sold in the UK when he went under the hammer for 26,000gns, respectively, on Saturday (February 27th).

The June-2019-born entry, property of Messrs GA & HM Francis, Pistyll Uchaf, Abergorlech, Carmarthen, led a strong demand for Simmental bulls at United Auction’s Livestock Centre, Stirling.

According to the British Simmental Cattle Society, Pistyll Kingsman 19 changed hands for the second top price for a Simmental bull sold at auction in the UK,

Described as “long and stylish”, he is by Woodhall Ferrari 14, who has bred bulls to 14,000gns at Stirling, and is out of Woodhall Evangeline.

The sale, held under the ongoing and unusual Covid circumstances, saw a strong demand led by commercial producers looking for “first quality” Simmental bulls.

64 bulls in all sold from the 78 forward to average £6482, up by £1443 on the year, and with an 82% clearance rate.  Six bulls fetched over 10,000gns, with 28 in climbing to 6000gns and more.

“The majority of the bulls sold to Scottish buyers and with a number of purchases heading to Orkney.” a society spokesperson explained.

“The sale, however, also saw a strong Simmental demand from across the UK and with bulls going to Wales, Northumberland, Cumbria, Herefordshire, Yorkshire, and Northants.”

“Once again, and continuing the trend, there was a ready demand for dark red, long, clean, modern bulls, and with good figures.”
