PICTURES: Upcoming dispersal sale of a pedigree Charolais herd

Sixmilebridge Mart will host a dispersal sale of a pedigree Charolais herd in the coming weeks.

The Ballysheen herd are owned by pedigree breeder Cristy Morey from Co. Clare.

Morey told That’s Farming that a recent conversion to dairy farming was the main reason for selling his beloved pedigree herd. He started milking in February of this year and plans to focus solely on the new enterprise.

“I sold the rest of my sucklers this time last year and I hoped to keep the pedigree herd, but with all the work involved in keeping two herds, I just felt the need to lighten the load and focus on dairy,” he explained.

“I’ve had them for more than 20 years – I always had a couple of cows but never too many. I always went to sales with them but never showed them because I was working off-farm at the time and never had the time.”

The sale

There will be 5 cows with 6 calves at foot (one set of twins) and 2 heifers on offer at Sixmilebridge Mart on July 11th at 12pm. All females from the grass-based herd are sire verified and calves will be sire verified before the sale.

The animals have been sired by the likes of Pirate, Excellent, Sicilian and Inverlochy Ferdie and scanning details will be available at the sale.
