PHOTOS: Win this Limousin-cross-Simmental breeding heifer

DC Farm Competitions is giving farmers the chance to win a high-end two-year-old Simmental-cross-Limousin breeding heifer.

A total of 150 tickets, priced at €20, are available to purchase as part of its latest competition.

Daniel Conway, founder of DC Farm Competitions, which is based in Co. Mayo, said: “She is everything you look for in a cow with length, depth, shape and great colouration.”

“She will breed some super stock. If she comes into heat in the coming days, she will be AI’d to Limousin sire, EBY.”

“You must be over the age of eighteen to enter this competition. If someone under this age wins, we cannot give them the prize and will have to draw again.”

How does it work?

The new online platform, which holds weekly competitions, has stemmed from Daniel Conway’s life-long passion for breeding cattle of superior genetic merit.

The new agricultural-orientated competitions website allows farmers to be in with the chance of winning quality cattle by paying a small entry fee which is a fraction of their value.

Users are required to log onto – www.dcfarmcompetitions.com – where they select a competition of their choice.

They then click ‘enter’ to purchase a ticket and are required to answer a question to qualify and complete payment. They are then entered into the draw in question and receive email confirmation with a ticket number.

The winner of each competition is announced during a Facebook livestream when all tickets are sold; the competition provider will contact winners and organise transfer and collection arrangements.

“We will use a random number generator to select winners as part of our efforts to be fair and transparent. Winners will get their entry fee back and a luck’s penny.”

“The system is 100% fair with no hidden agenda – we are just looking to cover our costs. I view this as a better way of getting a fair price for a top-class animal and a fair way for somebody to win an animal too.”

To date, five breeding and in-calve commercial and pedigree heifers, along with bale wrap, have been won by farmers from across the island of Ireland.

“We have received an immense response to date, with tickets selling out in days. We have a number of free-to-enter social media competitions, which can be entered on our growing Facebook page.” explained the owner of the Scardaune Charolais herd.

Future

Numerous other raffle items are under wraps including a selection of high-value pedigree Charolais heifers that have been imported from France.

The animals carry bloodlines that “people only dream of getting their hands on,” according to the suckler farmer.

“We will be purchasing animals of superior breeding from herds across Ireland, France and the U.K for draws; these will include heifers, cows and cows with calves at foot.”

“We may venture into holding competitions for other items in the future, but for now, the focus is on top-quality cattle, the cream of the crop, the best of the best,” Daniel concluded.
