Gardaí in Kilkenny seized a “dishevelled” pony in an “improvised” pen in Hebron Industrial Estate over the course of the weekend.
Action was taken in response to a report from a member of the public.
In a post on social media, Garda Síochána Kilkenny/Carlow said: “With the assistance of the council and some incredibly kind members of the public, we managed to get the animal to a place of refuge.”
“It is hoped that a good home will be found for the horse who, at the time of finding, had no access to water or even adequate grass.”
“The owner of the animal is unlikely to come forward and even less likely to get him back. Thank you, everyone, for your help.” the post added.
In an update posted shortly after 2pm this afternoon (Monday, August 17th), Gardaí said: “Great news, a very kind family have come forward and fostered our new friend.”
“He will be cared for and is in great hands. Everyone who has helped knows who were thanking. Brilliant stuff.”
