Teen dies after tractor leaves road and enters drain

Offaly tractor crash

A teenager has died after the tractor they were driving left the road and entered a drain.

The single road traffic collision occurred shortly before midnight last night (Thursday, April 5th, 2022) in Co Offaly.

Confirming the news to That’s Farming, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said:

“Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal road traffic collision at Clonmore, Rhode, Co. Offaly on Thursday, May 5th, 2022.”

“Gardaí and emergency services were alerted shortly after 11 pm after a tractor left the road and entered a deep drain at Black Castle Bog, Clonmore.”

“The tractor driver, a male aged in his teens, was fatally injured. He was removed from the scene to Tullamore Hospital.”

“The road is currently closed at the scene for examination by Garda forensic collision investigators. The local coroner has been notified,” the spokesperson added.

Gardaí has issued an appeal to witnesses to come forward. They have asked any road users with video footage (including dashcam) to make this available to them.

They have asked anyone with information to contact Tullamore Garda Station on: 057 932 7600 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.

RTC involving tractor and van in Meath

Meanwhile, a man has been hospitalised following a crash between a van and a tractor in Co Meath.

The road traffic collision took place in Skryne, Co. Meath, shortly after 9 am yesterday (Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022).

Confirming the news to That’s Farming, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said:

“Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a road traffic collision between a van and a tractor at occurred on May 3rd, 2022, at Skryne, Co. Meath at 9.10 am.”

They explained that a man suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The emergency services took him to Blanchardstown Hospital for treatment.

Investigations are ongoing.
