New free platform connects buyers and sellers of livestock

Two developers, who reside and work in Drumkeeran in rural County Leitrim, have developed a new platform for farmers to advertise livestock for sale.

www.onlinemart.ie was the result of a recent conversation between the innovative entrepreneurs and a local farmer.

Speaking to That’s Farming, they said: “Like everyone, we are impacted by the Covid-19 restrictions on movement and have met few people in person in the last few weeks.”

“We are a mile off the main road and the only people to pass down our lane are the local farmers foddering their cattle.”

“We were chatting over the fence to our neighbouring farmer who was tending to his Aberdeen Angus bulls and the chat got around to the difficulties, he was facing selling his bulls now the marts were closed.”

“The reality of deadlines in the farming chain was brought home to us, as he explained now his bulls would lose half their value if he hadn’t moved them on by May.”

New free platform

They figured the best they could assist farmers was to utilise their IT skills and create a free, dedicated site to connect livestock farmers, www.onlinemart.ie.

“We’ve made it as easy-to-use as possible without the functionality and it is completely free for farmers to use.”

“In these unprecedented times, we all have to pull together and together, we will persevere,” they concluded.
