Motorists using Snapchat while driving slammed

Members of the PSNI has issued advice to motorists regarding the use of mobile phones whilst driving.

In a post on social media, a spokesperson for Police Fermanagh & Omagh, said: “It is ridiculous how many people think it’s a good idea to post a video of themselves driving to PUBLIC Snapchat Maps.”

“If, while driving any motor vehicle on the road, you pick up or use any type of phone that must be held, you will be breaking the law.

This, the post added, means you should not use your mobile phone:

  • When you are stopped at traffic lights;
  • When you are queuing in traffic;
  • To make or receive calls;
  • To send or receive picture and text messages;
  • To access the internet.

‘Prison time’

“Never use your phone while driving. The penalty might be three points, but what if you cause a collision that takes a life? That is prison time.”

“Stop and think the next time you are tempted to pick up your phone while driving.” the post concluded.
