Weather: No end in sight for rain

Met Éireann weather forecast Ireland

According to Met Éireann, it will be dry in many places this morning (Friday, May 14th), with some sunny spells expected.

There will be scattered showers, heaviest in Leinster, Ulster, and east Connacht. The national forecaster has warned of a risk of thunderstorms in Ulster in the afternoon.

It will become cloudier in the south-west through the day with rain to arrive here before spreading over Munster in the evening.

Temperatures will reach between 11 to 15 degrees during the day before dropping between 5 to 7 degrees tonight.

Rain will continue to spread northwards tonight, impacting most areas overnight; however, parts of Ulster will remain dry. Showers will follow into west Munster by the morning, with light to moderate easterly breezes, fresh at times along the southern coast.

Saturday, May 15th

There will be outbreaks of rain over the country’s northern half tomorrow, with showers expected in Munster.

Sunshine and showers will extend northwards before becoming widespread in the afternoon. Showers will be heaviest over Ireland’s southern half, with some thundery and with hail.

Temperatures will climb between 11 to 14 degrees before dropping between 5 to 8 degrees tomorrow night. Showers will die out, with clear spells to follow over the country’s northern half.

Furthermore, cloudier conditions are expected further south with rain and drizzle near south and south-east coasts.

Sunday, May 16th

Meanwhile, Sunday will see a mixture of some sunny spells and showers, which will become widespread during the afternoon. The national forecaster, has once again, warned that some of these will be heavy or thundery.

Temperatures will be in the region of 12 to 15 degrees during the day, with night-time lows of 5 to 7 degrees.

Meanwhile, looking ahead to next week, Monday will bring sunny spells and showers, which will be most frequent and heaviest through the afternoon and evening.

Again, similar conditions will follow into Tuesday, with longer spells of rain at times over Ulster.

Further showers will continue into Wednesday, with spells of rain or showers through the rest of the week. Temperatures will range from 11 to 15 degrees, in light or moderate, mainly westerly winds.
