Weather: Wintry showers and frost to return

Here is this week’s farming weather forecast from Met Éireann for Monday, March 22nd 2021

It will be mostly cloudy today (Monday, March 22nd), with many areas set to hold dry apart from some patches of mist or drizzle, according to Met Éireann.

Although it will be mainly cloudy, occasional sunny spells are most likely to occur in eastern and southern counties.

Temperatures will reach between 10 to 13 degrees before dropping between 5 to 8 degrees.

Tuesday

There will be a “good deal” of cloud covering Ireland with an occasional spot of rain or drizzle.

The national forecaster outlined that during the afternoon and evening, a spell of rain will push in from the Atlantic to impact western counties, before moving eastwards in the evening.

Tuesday night will see a band of rain extend eastwards over the country. A clearance will follow from the west, with temperatures to fall between 1 to 3 degrees under clear skies.

Wednesday

According to Met Éireann, after a mostly dry start on Wednesday, showery rain will move in from the Atlantic to impact parts of west Munster, Connacht and Ulster.

Mostly dry conditions with bright or sunny spells are expected to develop further east. Temperatures will climb between 9 to 12 degrees in moderate to fresh south-west winds.

Some scattered outbreaks of rain will move eastwards over Ireland during the night, but will clear to scattered showers.

Temperatures will range between 3 to 6 degrees in moderate south-west breezes.

Thursday

Showery outbreaks of rain will spread across the country from the west, before turning blustery.

Some heavy downpours are expected, with a risk of hail later in the day.

Temperatures will reach between 10 to 13 degrees, although a colder airmass will extend from the Atlantic later in the day.

Lingering rain impacting eastern counties will clear on Thursday night, leaving a mix of clear spells, showers, hail and thunder.

Met Éireann has warned of a “touch of frost” in sheltered areas, as temperatures are set to drop to 0 to 3 degrees.

Friday

It looks set to be cold and windy with some sunny spells and widespread showers.

The national forecaster said that some showers will be wintry with a risk of hail and thunder. Temperatures will range between 5 to 8 degrees with clear spells and scattered showers overnight.

Weekend – weather March 2021

Looking ahead to the weekend, early indications from Met Éireann suggest the weekend will remain unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain expected.
