Ballymote Mart seeking new manager

Aurivo Marts is seeking to recruit a commercially-focused manager for Ballymote Mart.

According to the job listing, the candidate will have to report directly to the mart’s general manager, oversee all aspects of the mart’s operations and will further drive its current market position.

The job listing stated that the mart has a throughput of 14,000 cattle annually and has seen “significant” growth in recent years in its sheep sales, going from “very small” numbers to now having a throughput of 20,000 sheep annually.

A key requirement, the post added, will be to maintain and build “strong and effective” relationships with all stakeholders and customers while leading a team of employees.

The listing noted: “Ballymote Mart is synonymous in the livestock mart industry and is known nationally and internationally as a place to acquire quality thriving livestock.”

“Ballymote Mart is well invested and has all the modern-day equipment around the operation of a successful livestock mart e.g. online selling platform, up-to-date sheep scanning equipment, clear accurate displays of important information with regards to livestock as they are being auctioned etc.”

The role represents an “excellent” opportunity for an “ambitious” candidate to progress and develop within “one of Ireland’s leading multi-discipline co-operatives”.

Responsibilites 

Responsibilities, include but are not limited to overseeing successful trading of livestock, leading and directing all direct reports and driving business growth through effective marketing and ensuring “strong” competition for livestock.

Also, you must identify efficiencies and continuous improvement initiatives and ensure a strong health and safety culture is maintained and continually review and update practices and procedures in line with health and safety legislation and Aurivo policies.

The mart manager must support the general manager in all aspects of running the business and compile reports on business performance.

Moreover, other responsibilities include preparing capital expenditure proposals for projects as needed and managing all credit-related issues and ensuring highly efficient administration is maintained to avoid delay / bad debts.

Furthermore, you must work closely with the different operational stakeholders on projects, business support and including IT and technology.

Requirements

Hands-on management experience working within a mart or associated business are desirable, but not essential.

The successful candidate must be flexible and adaptable and able to work in every area of the mart.

They must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of livestock and the agricultural industry, along with employee relations and health and safety legislation.

Personal attributes include a strong team ethic, an ability to lead and inspire others, a strong customer focus and “excellent” interpersonal skills.
