A driver, who was towing a five-axle low loader and was travelling towards Co. Donegal, was stopped by Gardaí in Sligo town over the course of the weekend.
The low-loader, which had a digger, buckets and fuel tank, is required to have a permit issued by the local county council in order to travel, according to a statement from Gardaí on the matter.
“This driver did not have the necessary paperwork and [the low-loader] was just nearly 16 tonnes overweight.”
“The vehicle was not permitted to travel any further by investigating Gardai due to the weight.”
The Garda spokesperson explained that a fixed charge penalty notice will be issued to the driver.
