Covid-19: Lockdown extended

The Government has, this afternoon (Friday, April 10th), accepted the National Public Health Emergency Team’s proposal to extend current Covid-19 restrictions for a further period.

Lockdown measures were originally due to expire at midnight on April 12th (Easter Bank Holiday Sunday); however, a new extension date of May 5th has been announced.

The Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, has said he hopes that after this date, the government can begin to unwind the restrictions; however, he could not guarantee that this will be the case.

He thanked the public for their assistance and said every sacrifice being made is saving lives.
