Smaller sale creates ‘lively’ trade at Kilkenny

Monday, January 27th saw some 320 lots go under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart’s sheep sale, according to George Candler.

“A much smaller sale of sheep created a very lively trade with a top call of €133 for heavy hoggets/lambs. Cull ewes peaked at €140/head.” the auctioneer explained.

Butcher lambs – €1.73-€2.49/kg or €123-€133/head;

  • X8 77kg – €133;
  • X10 58kg – €126;
  • X19 52kg – €129;
  • X10 51kg – €127.

Factory lambs – €2.30-€2.54/kg or €94-€122/head;

  • X10 48kg – €122;
  • X10 46kg – €116;
  • X8 44kg – €105;
  • X5 40kg – €94.

Other categories:

  • Cast ewes – €90-€140/head.

Dairy stock:

  • In-calve Friesian heifers due February/March – €1,040-€1,320/head;
  • Freshly-calved FR cows and heifers – €1,100-€1,720/head.
