VIDEO: Seller bursts into song at Clare cattle mart

Farmer, John Browne, Kilkee, burst into song after selling some cattle at Kilrush Mart, Co Clare yesterday (Wednesday, September 7^th, 2022).

Browne told the story of days gone by at show and sale days in Kilrush during his 4-minute performance, which the mart’s auctioneer, Pat Neylon, encouraged.

Neylon asked the seller: “You sold the last couple of cattle, sir, and you want to sing a verse of a song?”

“Come sing a song, and I will hold the microphone for you,” the auctioneer remarked before Browne took centre stage.

According to a spokesperson, a “big” entry came under the hammer at the Clare-based mart at its annual show and sale of cattle.

Overall, the spokesperson noted, beef was scarce, but the sale attracted “quite a share” of forward cattle in all rings.

“Some of the quality stores met great demand and achieved over €3/kg in many cases.”

“The sale included quite a number of traditional breeds available today, especially in the bullock ring,” the spokesperson added.
